ABOUT

Derek Rhodes

In this episode we hear from Derek Rhodes, head of Durham NC based non profit Durham Success Summit, an organization committed to teaching transferable life skills to Black Males ages 16-24.

After attending Duke University, working for Duke Mens Basketball, then launching into a career with some of the biggest names in tech, including Google and Microsfot, Derek was still asking himself important questions....and realizing he didn't have it all figured out. So? He began working on something he was passionate about, and then eventually quit his job to build DSS full time.

In our conversation, we talk about lessons learned, things that translate from the business world to non profit, the importance of having a plan, as well as some specific tips and inspirations for others thinking about creating innovative new organizations in the non profit space.
