Open Positions:

Marketing Intern

We’re looking for a marketing intern to engage primarily with our social media audience. For Smashing Boxes, social media’s most important aspect is its ability to create one-to-one relationships between brands and the public.

We are hoping our intern will contribute to additional marketing efforts, but expansion of our social media presence is the primary responsibility. Knowledge of best practices and familiarity with Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin are key qualifications. Additionally, our ideal candidate will show an interest in web development, web design, or entrepreneurship.

The internship is a part-time, paid position and your experience will dictate your rate. We’re expanding our team, so individuals who continually deliver may become permanent fixtures.

Interface Designer

Responsibilities will include:
• Participation in creative ideation, strategy and brainstorming.
• Staying current with latest trends and technology.
• Commitment to continuing education and willingness to supplement knowledge of creative authoring tools.
• Understanding specs and adherence to Smashing Boxes’ standards of quality in design and development.
• Understanding and maintaining clients’ brand requirements, goals, and objectives while pushing creative boundaries.
• Collaboration with and inspiration of other designers.
• Working closely with project management to understand timing, deliverables, and plan production.

Requirements for the ideal candidate:
• 3+ years of professional design experience, at least 1 year in an agency environment.
• Stellar portfolio demonstrating solid design, layout, and typography skills. (Portfolios with interactive work strongly preferred.)
• Experience with both web and mobile interface design.
• Expert command of Photoshop and Illustrator.
• Appreciation for the importance of sound development and QA.
• Desire to learn, grow, and contribute in a creative, collaborative environment.

Nice to Haves:
• Knowledge of 3D applications.
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

iOS Developer

Responsibilities will include:
• Working alongside our product and design teams to customize our clients experience for the iOS platform.
• Implementation of custom, native user interfaces using the latest iOS programming techniques.
• Ability to analyze and refactor UI and back-end application code for efficiency and performance.

Requirements for the ideal candidate:
• B.S. or M.S. Computer Science or related field.
• 2+ years of object-oriented software development experience.
• 2+ years mobile application development.
• 2+ years building complex applications for the iPhone or iPad using Objective-C/C++ with Cocoa and other frameworks.
• Ability to understand and debug large and complex code bases.
• Experience with Test-driven Development (TDD)/Behavior-driven Development (BDD).
• Knowledge of iOS SDK performance tools and optimization techniques.
• Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Front-End Developer

Responsibilities will include:
• Working alongside our product and design teams, from concept to delivery, to create web-based solutions unique to our clients’ needs.
• Participation in code reviews to strengthen skills and increase the quality of our work.
• Contributions to brainstorming and strategy sessions.

Requirements for the ideal candidate:
• 2+ years of professional web development experience.
• Strong portfolio of related work.
• High level of competence with HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
• Experience with the Ruby on Rails framework.
• Experience with WordPress.
• Experience with a variety of third-party tools and plug-ins.
• Experience integrating with APIs.
• Experience with Git or other versioning systems.
• Knowledge of responsive design and its implementation.
• Ability and willingness to communicate clearly with team members.
• Willingness and ability to constantly expand knowledge of tools and trends.

Ruby on Rails Developer

Responsibilities will include:
• Working alongside our product and design teams, from concept to delivery, to create web-based solutions unique to our clients’ needs.
• Participation in code reviews to strengthen skills and increase the quality of our work.
• Contributions to brainstorming and strategy sessions.
• Ability to remain up to date with the latest changes in relevant technologies.

Requirements for the ideal candidate:
• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or related field.
• 3+ years of object-oriented programming experience.
• 3+ years of web development experience.
• 2+ years of Ruby on Rails experience.
• Basic knowledge of a *nix operating system.
• Knowledge of relational database design and SQL.
• Experience with GIT and an active Gibhub account.
• Ability to troubleshoot, understand and refactor old code bases.
• Experience designing APIs.
• Experience with Test-driven Development (TDD)/Behavior-driven Development (BDD).
• Follows best practices.
• Passion for web technology.
• Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.
